Myths And Facts About Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can help you look younger, reduce sun damage, and fight acne scars. Yet many of our customers and clients come to us utterly afraid to try one.

That’s why we thought we’d take some time to address some of the major myths about chemical peels.

Myth: I’ll Be In For Days Of Unattractive Peeling

If you’ve never received a chemical peel before, you might believe the after-effects of a chemical peel are similar to the after-effects of a really bad sunburn: days of disgusting, embarrassing peeling and flaking.

In reality, chemical peels have evolved. Peels like PRX-Derm barely produce flaking and generally only do so for roughly one week. Irritation tends to be mild with all modern chemical peels.

Myth: Chemical Peels Are One-And-Done

We’d love it if there were one treatment we could offer you that would solve all your skin issues in one sitting. Unfortunately, even the most technologically enhanced treatments tend to require multiple treatments. However, there will be a limit to the number of treatments you’ll need.

Traditional chemical peels usually require a series of 6 or more treatments spread over roughly a six-week period. Cutting-edge peels like PRX-DERM can produce results after one session a week for three to ten weeks.

Myth: There’s Only One Type Of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels come in a variety of compositions, depths, and guidelines. They’re made of different ingredients and target different problems. You can get a light peel that removes the surface layer of skin cells, a medium peel that offers full exfoliation, or a deep peel that can eliminate damaged skin cells.

Don’t start by picking a chemical peel. Instead, consider a skin issue you’d like to address. Your consultant can help you pick the right peel for that problem.

Myth: You Can’t Use Chemical Peels On Sensitive Skin

There are many kinds of chemical peels, and some are perfectly suitable for people with sensitive skin or even certain skin conditions. The word “chemical” may make peels sound harsh, but in reality, many of them include ingredients that calm inflammation and reduce redness.
